The primacy of Valenza

About prestigious handicraft and national records, we have to begin from Valenza, in province of Alessandria, in the cosy Piedmont. Here, on 1843 Vincenzo Morosetti opened the first jewellery store and became famous also abroad, at the Paris Expo, when also Cartier was astonished by these original jewels. On 1873 his pupil, the goldsmith Vincenzo Melchiorre started the Melchiorre & C and in a few years became the leader of this field.

He was the first to conceive an high qualified production using Oriental precious stones and addressing that to a middle-class market, also following the fashion style. Many of his pupils started a business and Valenza became an important district for goldsmithing.
