Central Italy is the first stop on a trip devoted to the most delicious truffles; in fact, the small town of San Miniato (near Pisa) hosts the annual White Truffle Fair: this isn’t just a feast, but a showcase-event that enhances the other local products such as wines, cold cuts and cheeses.

The event takes place this year on 3 weekends: 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 November.
San Miniato also holds the record for the largest truffle in the world, 2 kilos and 520 grams, found in 1954 by Arturo Gallerini, nicknamed “Bego”.

About truffle hunting, we suggest Truffle in Tuscany, offering several kinds of activities such as Luxury Experience (a walk in the woods where it was found the largest truffle), lunch or dinner with dishes based on fresh truffles and a funny cooking class to learn the secrets of this tasty gem preparation.

The last stopover of our journey is Acqualagna, a not very popular town for mass tourism and yet incredibly charming.

Acqualagna is located in Marche region, near the Furlo Gorge, which is part of the nature reserve Gola del Furlo, a paradise populated by junipers, maples, wild roses and rare animal species such as the golden eagle.

In Acqualagna takes place a White Truffle Fair, now came to 50th edition, however, you can collect and buy truffles all year around, contacting companies like Acqualagna Tartufi which sells many specialties such as sauces, creams, oils flavored with truffles and all the varieties of this valuable tuber (from white to black muscat, just to name a few). This is the website to find more information on products:

Take the opportunity of a tour here to see the remains of the Pietralata castle, built in the XI century and situated on a rocky outcrop almost completely inaccessible.

Each of the goals of this trip reveals a different aspect of a top product such as truffle, a treasure difficult to find, for those who got the passion, expertise and skills needed to enjoy it at its best.
